Popular Wood Floor Colors 2014 - One question I've been asked time and again on the years working in the wood flooring industry is; can my old wooden floor that is fitted be sanded and refurbished? Many people have a wooden floor inside their house that's been down for 6-10 years that's appearing tired, dull, has scratches or stains in and has definitely seen better days. A lot of people know what to do having a fitted wooden flooring is a little more confusing, although that first floor boards or parquet floors can be sanded back to create a finished flooring that is lovely.
You must learn what sort of flooring you have, & most importantly that it's wood. I am afraid the sole alternative would be to replace it, if your flooring is a wood effect laminate then. Laminate flooring comes in varying degree of quality, but most of the time it is essentially a wood effect print stuck with a lacquer on top to either an MDF or plywood plank, sanding it ruin the floor and would only sand the paint off.
There are two types of wooden flooring that is fitted; engineered and solid wood flooring and the good news is, both refurbished and can be sanded to look as new as the day they were fitted. As it features the same building engineered wooden flooring will often be mistaken for laminate. Engineered wood flooring has a thin layer of real wood, generally between 3-5 mm bonded to some foundation of either ply or MDF board, because that it's fitted together with a tongue and groove and of its building, additionally, it stays very flat.
This means if sanded right you need to just need to sand off less than the usual millimeter, so the floor can usually be sanded up to 3 times If your floor is solid wood flooring it is going to have an extremely similar appearance to engineered on the surface, but nevertheless, it will likely be constructed entirely of just one piece of wood from the top layer of the foundation. Solid wood flooring certainly will necessarily cost a lot more to buy and is more expensive to make, but for me, it's not as great engineered as it is more vulnerable to warping.
